Infineon, NXP, and Renesas were the leading automotive semiconductor manufacturers worldwide in 2020. Infineon's market share was estimated at around 13.2 percent. Texas Instruments were the fourth highest with 8.7% of the global market.
In 2019, the Germany-based Robert Bosch GmbH company, headquartered in Stuttgart Germany, sold automotive parts to the value of around $46.6 billion. Bosch ranks among the world's largest suppliers of automotive components. Top aftermarket automotive supply companies after Bosch are Denso Corporation (Kariya, Japan), Magna International (Ontario, Canada), Continental AG (Hanover, Germany) ZF Group (Friedrichshafen, Germany), Aisin Seiki (Aichi, Japan) and Hyundai Mobis (Seoul, South Korea). At a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%, the market size for automotive front-end modules is projected to increase from $ 93.28 billion in 2020 to $ 103 billion in 2024. Automotive front end module (FEM) is a pre-assembled unit consisting of components that are typically found at the front of a vehicle, such as the bumper, grille, headlamps, and other components. The size of a FEM can vary based on the vehicle for which it is intended.
In 120 years there has been a tremendous evolution of what is arguably two of the three most important elements of the automobile, the car itself and the key – but what happened to the license plate? Why are we still seeing a 12” by 6” piece of metal or plastic fastened to the front and/or back of such high-tech vehicles?

(Statista) Automobile technology has continuously advanced, with electronics and digitalization making the driving experience progressively easier and safer. Today’s vehicles at all price points are packed with electronics, from anti-lock braking systems and stability control programs, to lane assist systems blind spot detection and parking assistance.
Since its emergence in the 20th century, the electronics sector has been providing equipment, devices, and components to make technological advancements possible. Automation in industrial production and the ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ are among the key trends in the electronics industry, as today’s world is increasingly relying on technology. The electronics industry is predominantly a business-to-business industry, offering the building blocks on which many other modern industries stand: e-commerce, consumer electronics, and the manufacturing sector, to name only a few, all rely on electrical components. The key markets include China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Germany. Automotive electronics include semiconductors (chips), sensors, engine management, ignition, carputers*, and infotainment systems. The importance of automotive electronics has been growing in recent years, marking the transition from mechanical to electronic systems in the industry. The main drivers of this rise in electronics usage in cars are the broader trends of connectivity and automation.
